Friday afternoons are my "Community Artist" days, when I go into a local school to teach the KS1 and KS2 children various art projects. This term, we have combined 2 groups in KS2, to do still life studies using various mediums. So far, they have really struggle using charcoal, so I decided to offer up some suggestions in the hope that, after the holidays, we can inspire them to enjoy using charcoal! It's been MANY years since I used charcoal, but here is the result of my effort!

Thank you Mandy, I'm really pleased you stopped by! Helz x
Charcoal is not easy to use, is it? Hopefully the children will have been inspired by your lovely sketches. Lesley
The sketches are really lovely. I love charcoal, one of my favourite mediums. I like the fact it's messy and smudges. LOL Maybe you could get the kids to cut out paper and stick it down and then use the charcoal to smudge on the outlines? Might be more fun then trying to get a nice 'clean' drawing done.
Thanks Sybille, I love your idea, the trouble is we are focussing on observational drawing and getting the children to look for detail. Helz x
Good Morning, Helz! I love your blog and artwork! I wish I could say I was that talented :)I noticed you have become a follower of my blog and want to thank you. Gosh, you are brave!! I don't think I would trust my little classes with charcoal just yet, they are just getting to grips with watercolours. Lovely sketches, particularly the feather.
Thanks Caroline, they are a mixed group of years 3 to 6, so hopefully a few of them might get inspired by that!! Helz x
